I can do it all. Sometimes …

Summer Lovin’

I was bored this morning and had a couple of hours to kill before work. So what did I do?

Tackle the laundry? No. Vacuum and dust? No. Clean the patio? No.

I opened all the windows to let in the fresh summer air, turned on the DVD player and watched “Grease.” Productive, huh? Sometimes you just need to veg out, and today is one of those days. I’m tired from Riley’s field trip yesterday at the Botanical Garden; we probably walked 4 miles, chasing 4- and 5-year-olds. And it’s that time–always fun. So this morning was a restful one.

Anyway, I love “Grease.” I’ve been watching this movie FOREVER, and every time I watch I find some little phrase that I don’t recall hearing before … or that I was too young and naive to catch the first time around.

Like:
“Bite the weenie, Riz.”
“With relish.”

“Where ya goin’? To flog your log?”

And I swear this was the first place I ever heard the phrase “Freakin’ a.”

Oh, and the music is awesome. I love me some oldies. And Sha Na Na was the bomb. Remember their show on Saturdays? Watched it religiously. I had a huge crush on singer Johnny, greasy curls and all. And who didn’t love Bowser? Ha.ha.

I think I love the movie so much because in high school I was Sandy. Yes, Miss Goody Two Shoes. I was always the good girl, never dated, never got drunk, didn’t swear or smoke, made good grades, blah blah blah. I always wanted a transformation like Sandy had at the end of the movie, where the guys would be speechless and the girls would be jealous. :-)

But I always wondered if she was really being true to herself. Yeah, Danny lettered in track, but he only had to put on a sweater. Sandy had to practically reinvent herself. Perm, smokes, earrings, makeup, tight clothes, high heels … she went from sweet and innocent to sexpot. You go, girl? Or did she go too far? She certainly looks happy when the car flies off into the sunset, doesn’t she?

I’m no longer a Sandy, but I’m not a Rizzo, either. I’m a good mix of naughty and nice, although in a fight the Sandy in me usually wins out. Maybe I need to let Riz out a little more now. :-)

“Grease” is the word …

Oooh, I love that movie! I even have it listed in my Myspace favorite movies on my profile!

I remember Sha Na Na, too….though it seems I couldn't watch it all the time because we didn't have 'sophisticated' cable, we had VHF and UHF, and my folks didn't like to switch the cable from one type to another. And the reception was usually horrible.

I don't know what Grease character I am most like, if I am. I'm totally like Riff Randall from Rock N Roll High School. Oh, wait….I am actually Kenickie…..restoring a hot car!
